Tara is an educator and a problem solver. Her training as a nuclear engineer and social science researcher provides her with a strategic approach to solving problems that is rooted in the pursuit of social justice. Since 2009, Tara has collaborated with various partners to develop and provide workshops, training sessions, and curriculum for diverse audiences within higher education and professional settings. Much of her work involves addressing issues within undergraduate education, especially related to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), research experiences, and professional development. Tara has developed curriculum for and taught more than seven University-level courses and presented hundreds of workshops at the University of Michigan and The University of New Mexico. Tara believes in the limitless ability for humans to learn throughout their lifetime, and this perspective focuses her work as an educator on fostering students’ resilience, their efficacy to set and monitor goals, as well as their ability to master and apply course material to real-life scenarios outside of the classroom.
Tara is an active researcher. She is passionate about justice issues and has experience investigating social problems. She is especially motivated by research that allows her to work with community partners on developing their capacities to ask their own research questions and investigate the answers. Tara has two peer-reviewed publications and more than 10 national conference presentations.
