One of the STCC activities is an annual State of STEM Report. This project is designed to explore strengths and opportunities relative to STEM undergraduate education at UNM. The attached State of STEM Report documents represent the STEM Collaborative’s first such analysis. Additional reports will also be completed in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
The State of STEM Report includes a qualitative analysis of UNM’s strengths and opportunities relative to STEM undergraduate education. The STCC contracted with the UNM Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) to undertake and publish this report. In completing this analysis, CEPR interviewed STEM students, faculty members and administrators. The methodology for this report is included in the attached document.
While this State of STEM Report does not answer all of the important questions regarding STEM undergraduate education, it does represent a solid start. Our hope is to utilize this report in supporting faculty who apply for additional STEM grants, and to further expand the dialogue concerning methods to improve STEM education at UNM, especially among student populations traditionally underrepresented in STEM.
